Unity and AMILI Launch Asian Microbiome-Based Synbiotic in Singapore

Singapore's Unity pharmacy chain has launched an exclusive retail partnership with homegrown microbiome supplement firm AMILI, introducing AMILI Metabolic Health, a synbiotic supplement formulated specifically around Asian gut microbiome data. The product will be available across Unity pharmacies from September 2026.

The formulation is based on gut microbiome research from Singapore's National University Hospital (NUH) and AMILI's own multi-ethnic Asian Microbiome Library, according to Dr Jeremy Lim, co-founder and CEO of AMILI. The company has positioned the distinction as central to the product, arguing that microbiome composition and metabolic health responses can vary meaningfully across ethnic populations, an area where most synbiotic products on the market are formulated using Western population data.

Pauline Png, general manager at Unity, FairPrice Group, said the launch marks the first synbiotic of its kind available across the pharmacy chain, positioning it as a differentiated entry into Singapore's growing metabolic health category.

The AMILI launch is one of several brand moves in Singapore's health and nutrition retail space this month. Blackmores debuted FiZZERS, a fast-dissolving supplement range targeted at younger consumers, in Singapore earlier in August 2026, ahead of a planned regional rollout. Separately, GNC is re-establishing standalone stores in the city-state and entering an exclusive distribution partnership with DFI Retail Group, parent company of Guardian, with products set to reach Guardian's online and offline stores as soon as the fourth quarter.

Together, the moves point to Singapore's continued role as a preferred first-market for health and wellness brand launches in Southeast Asia, with companies using the city-state to test positioning before wider regional expansion.

The metabolic health and synbiotic category has become one of the more active areas of competition in Asian nutrition retail, as consumers increasingly seek products tied to gut health and weight management. AMILI's approach of anchoring the product in localized clinical data gives it a specific differentiation angle against global supplement brands that formulate primarily for Western consumers.
