ParknShop, Wellcome Face Merger Speculation in Hong Kong
CK Hutchison has denied merger speculation, but soft sales, cross-border leakage and a wellness pivot continue to reshape Hong Kong's supermarket channel.
Hong Kong’s two largest supermarket chains, ParknShop and Wellcome, were at the centre of merger speculation this year.
In April, the Financial Times reported that Jardine Matheson was in talks with CK Hutchison Holdings to acquire ParknShop and merge it with Wellcome, which Jardine owns through DFI Retail Group. Together, the chains account for close to 90% of Hong Kong’s supermarket sales.
